Hello
to all Golden Bear Triathlon Participants!
Many of you
have had questions about the schedule and flow of the event.
Hopefully this will answer all your questions and provide
you with everything you’ll need to know.
1)
DAY BEFORE RACE
PACKET PICK-UP (recommended):
Packet pick-up will take place on Friday, May 9th
at Lake Anza in Tilden Park (this is also where Transition 1
is). The pick-up
hours will be from 3:00pm to 7pm on Friday.
SPECIAL NOTE: you will need to leave your gear for
Transition 2 (running shoes, clothing, special needs, nutrition,
etc.) at the packet pick-up.
Your gear will be waiting for you at T2 (6 miles from T1
- at Briones Overlook Staging Area).
2)
RACE DAY PACKET
PICK-UP: day of race packet pick-up will begin at 6:00am
on Saturday, May 10th at Lake Anza. SPECIAL NOTE: you
will need to leave your gear for Transition 2 (running shoes,
clothing, special needs, nutrition, etc.) at the packet pick-up
(ALL GEAR MUST BE TURNED IN TO REGISTRATION BY 7:00AM AT THE
LATEST!). Your gear
will be waiting for you at T2 (6 miles from T1 - at Brines
Overlook Staging Area).
3)
There will be a PRE-RACE
MEETING at 7:45 am on race day (15 minutes before the race
start) – Saturday, May 10th.
4)
RACE START:
8:00am on Saturday, May 10th.
There will be waves of 50 leaving every ten minutes.
We don’t anticipate there will be more than three waves
(8am – wave 1; 8:10am – wave 2; 8:20am – wave 3).
5)
SWIM COURSE:
two loops around the perimeter of the lake.
You will exit the water between loops, running fifty feet
along the sand, then re-enter the lake for the second loop.
6)
TRANSITION 1 (aka:
T1): located at the far north-east corner of the grassy area of
the Lake Anza picnic area.
Athletes will run the approximate 200 yards from the swim
finish to T1.
7)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
athletes must put any remaining gear (wetsuits, goggles, etc.)
in the numbered bag supplied by the race so that it may be
transported to the T2 finish line for you to retrieve after you
finish the race.
8)
BIKE COURSE (38k)
please refer to the course-map on line for details but the
IMPORTANT NOTE here: there
is a significant decent down Wildcat Canyon Road, you MUST race
with caution. There are at least 6 turns between Inspiration Point and San
Pablo Dam Road where you will need to SLOW
DOWN to avoid crashing.
We HIGHLY RECOMMEND riding the course on your own before
race day. Hammer
Nutrition will be available as you leave T1 so please take what
you will need on the bike course.
9)
TRANSITION 2 (aka
T2) - you will dismount your bike before entering T2. Upon entering you will see available racks where you will
rack your bike. Proceeding
forward you will find your T2 bag (REMEMBER, YOU GAVE US THIS AT
CHECK IN!) with your name, bib #, clearly identifiable on it
(all provided by race). You will put on your running gear and
put anything you are leaving back in the bag.
Drop the bag and RUN.
10)
RUN (10K)
There has been a change to the original course (what was
initially posted on our website).
The course is now entirely on the Oursan Trail.
It is an out and back run – all of which is off road,
it’s also pretty hilly, so be prepared.
We apologize for the change in the course (at request of
EBMUD) – there isn’t a course profile for this portion of
the race, but again we emphasize – it is a hilly run. Nutrition
(Hammer) and water will be available at every mile.
11)
POST RACE: Food:
muffins, bagels fruit and juice will be waiting for you at the
finish line. Awards:
There will be an awards ceremony at the finish area at
approximately 11:30am. Transportation:
a shuttle will be available for anyone that needs to get you
back to the race start to retrieve your car.
Remember, all your stuff will be at the finish line.
